  • Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) are legal documents that appoint trusted people to deal with these aspects of your life for you if you are unable to do so. There are two types – one to deal with your property and finance, and another to deal with healthcare. They can be created ahead of time, so that if you become ill or unable to manage your affairs, they are ready to be used. Once registered, they can only be used either a) with your permission or b) if you lose mental capacity. Please see our specialist Guide here for more information.

  • Anyone who is looking to the future with a view to putting things in place ahead of time. You can create your Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) now and they can remain unused for many years.   • If you become unable to manage your affairs in the future, your appointed Attorneys can use your registered Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) as their authority to deal with your affairs on your behalf. Without these, your loved ones may not be able to officially assist you. They may be prevented from dealing with medical professionals, or managing your bank account.   • The Government’s registration fee is currently £82 per LPA. There are two Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs), but you do not necessarily need to create both. The registration fee is reduced for those who can show that they are receiving certain benefits.
